Wonderful color on the rock section.
The sky looks wild (still with some minor parts slightly overexposed)!

I'd crop from top to get away from the half-and-half composition.

Still almost perfect! ;)

Beautiful, dramatic, and great lighting. Good suggestion by Patrick.

Agree with Patrick on the crop, crop the top 1/3 of the sky.
Love the perspective and the choice of filter. Great image!

Excellent composition, the only crit is the exposure of the sky doesnt match the forground. the top is about 2 stops under..

Great comp.. well done.

I'm amazed by comments like "crop this" or "crop that" because of the so called rule of thirds. The rule of thirds is a nice guideline and works in a lot of cases (also if you're really insecure about compositions) but the rule of thirds doesn't mean you have to use one third of your brain, there are many situations where it doesn't work and it's better to break it. People who always keep to their guidelines will have great difficulty to rise above themselves since they're stuck to their rules. If you crop the sky on this one, you'll kill the diagonal vantage points, so which rule overrules which in this case? Noone can tell and it's a matter of taste, but in the end there's actually nothing wrong with this photo and yeah the comment about the non matching exposure is a winner; should we all overexpose our skies because our camera is more limited than our eyes? I don't think so.
Art > rules.

Surprise, surprise that you agree Brandon... :p Dah... LOL

@damnengine: No need to be a jackass just because you are of another opinion. We are all entitled to say our piece without having to be insulted... :(

I thought you'd be happy ... mostly I don't agree with people :p

I don't believe he was insulting. The critiquing on GFX is extremely robotic. It's like everyone views photographs with some kind of obnoxious, utilitarian checklist. It's nice to see other people challenging this mindset.

@ Damnengine, you seem to be more interested in critiquing other comments than the image itself. The rule of thirds is a basic rule that covers most but not all images. I never mentioned it here. But I see I win the "prize" regarding the exposure of th sky.. LMAO the image above in my opinion would be greatly enhanced if the sky didnt look so doctored.. as stated its my opinion and you would do well to appreciate everyone has an opinion, just like everyone has an ar@ehole, the trick is not to talk out of it :) I also appreciate you have this member in your favourite artists and its good that you came forward on your white horse to her rescue, but with an image like this she doesnt need it. I pm you so you would know I have responded to you :) I think its more polite that way...

@Byonder: I am not sure you would know whether or not somebody is or was insulting as you are most likely throwing more insults on others than anyone else on this site... LOL :p

Saying: "but the rule of thirds doesn't mean you have to use one third of your brain" is to me an insult and apparently Al-h felt the same...

Why bother posting at all if it end result means insulting the viewers by ridiculizing them? Feedback does not have to be something that the artist has to agree with.

Being civil and behaving in the conversations/discussions is always appreciated. ;)

Sorry for this flame on your post Iwona... :)

Well I don't have to rescue anyone, yv can speak well for herself, but this actually has nothing to do with her, I just wrote this because I read these comments. I simply really have the strong impression that some people only "criticize for the sake of criticizing". It's sometimes really funny to see how the "experts" come with their rulebooks and throw some of the rules (and just disregarding other rules) against an image and then say that this kinda critics will help people. That'd be only true if that person also took time to get of his/her high horse to explain why the composition would work better that way. I didn't really like school but my design teacher there at least took the time to explain why some compositions work and why some don't. And yes I'm indeed ridiculizing people, because I have trouble taking some of this advice seriously, if you'd have a good eye then you'd see that cropping the sky would put too much weight on the ground anyway and make the image too heavy on the lower part, especially with hard contrasted textures and heavy objects there. About the image doctoring; I got pretty much the same kinda pics out of my cam and it's mainly doctored with a grad filter. And I'm not gonna apologize for the fact that I'm direct and perhaps slightly sarcastic instead of a we-all-should-hold-hands-and-be-friends-person (I nearly wrote hippies). Next to that I didn't call people ***holes or whatever, and if one is insulted by what I wrote, then I probably had a point. And why I wrote this? I'm tired of seeing this totally respectless way of telling people to crap this or that while they actually have a good image/composition. It's really easy to throw down some rule which might make you look like an expert and then walk away without even explaining why. Being civil is a facade anyway.

You lost me with that reply, I never mentioned cropping. and in fact I voted 9+
my only issue was the exposure of the sky.. as I said its an opinion.. Imagine that :)
